Visual Concept Planning Department

Students study theory and practice of the media culture. They also study about the future together.

Before a movie is completed, various people get involved and many processes are needed. In the Visual Concept Planning Department, students find their own directions with faculty members who play active parts in the world of motion pictures and visual images by using the same system of movie and broadcasting studios while studying the process of making visual images slowly and carefully. Students can create their own programs of study according to their aptitude and goals to be cameramen, movie directors, and scenario-writers.

Movies

Students have hands-on experience of the quality of making visual images at the professional level. Techniques and esthetics are soaked into their bodies.

Students master all processes of making movies by film practically and comprehensively. They experience the process which appeals to intellect and sensibility such as producing scenarios, shooting and composing music. Students learn techniques such as structure and function of camera, frame-work, and characters of lenses, types and qualities of film, and lighting skills in the same facilities and equipment that the professionals are using.

Moving Images

What are the plots, editing, and colors? Students discover the moving images for conveyance from the drama-production.

Students experience all process of various works such as long and short-dramas, documentaries, expressive images, art animations, commercial films. Among them, they find a genre which they want to tackle and deepen it. Especially, while emphasizing planning and scenario, students are given instructions on basic techniques as producers to convey writers’ thoughts and intentions to viewers.

Scenario

No great movie directors are unskillful at writing scenarios. We pursue a fun of writing scripts thoroughly.

In the world of filmmaking, there is a saying which goes a story is most important, visual images are secondly important, and actors are thirdly important. A script is so called the “nucleus” and “drawing plan” which plays a vital role in making movies. Students master basic techniques of scenario through lectures and interviews; afterwards, they tackle planning sheets and scenarios step by step, for 15 minute and 30 minute works. Students receive detailed instructions from faculty members who are active at the forefront of the artistic world.

Arts and Sciences of Moving Images

Through studies of cultures of moving images in all ages and countries, we foster characters as producers actively at work.

In the Course of Arts and Sciences of Moving Images, students learn the multifaceted subjects such as history of moving images, theory of artists, theory of works, theory of genres, theory of styles, and theory of media. This is the especially important field for the students who plan graduation projects.
Students master the practical techniques which is necessary for the present-day expressions such as choice of original books, staffing, casting, budgets, planning while learning expressions in films of all ages and countries. They strive for the leaders of production of moving images.

Character Creative Arts Department

We create characters that transcend borders and ages easily.

How can we create, move and activate characters that have universal powers? In the Character Creative Arts Department, firstly, students study “principles of characters” and obtain basic knowledge of history and present statuses of characters which are vital to their artistic activities and make them support their creative activities. In addition, students master knowledge, methodologies and skills to activate characters from all aspects such as know-how of producing and marketing, which are important in the world of business.

Manga Course

Students master all expressions of manga to live for manga.

Firstly, the Manga Course requires students to create steadfast characters. Secondly, students proceed to study the original works with energetic characters and learning to draw by hand. In the first year, students obtain their basic techniques, and in the second and third years, they are trained for creative and expressive powers through seminars and practical course work. In the forth year, they engage themselves in creating works with professional attitudes. Furthermore, students master abilities to criticize and edit in order to obtain viewpoints as producers and directors.

Animation Course

Students create the present situation of animation from the global viewpoint.

With advanced digital technologies, expressions of animation are greatly evolving and expanding.
In the Animation Course, students thoroughly learn techniques of drawing by hand, and practically master high-level techniques of diverse expressions such as computer graphics (CG) and others.
Students study the present situation and structures of animation business both nationally and internationally, and master the necessary knowledge and business skills totally.

Game Course

Game coexisting with characters accelerates entertainment.

Reading the history of game and changes of hardware (machinery types), students analyze and study the appeal, role and potential of game pulling entertainment. Students actually tackle development of original game while mastering how to manipulate game creating software. They master necessary knowledge and techniques since characters are important in game contents as well.

Figure Arts Course

Bring your free imagination to a solid body with the potential of sensibilities and technologies holding true in the world.

Based on a broad range of knowledge of the history and present situation concerning character creation, the frontline professionals in the field provide the instructions in specialized techniques of figure creation. Furthermore, students study producing and marketing necessary in the business world. Students nurture knowledge and skills for getting jobs for toy and model manufacturers in addition to various kinds of works relating figure arts.

Literary Arts Department

Students find their creative themes and polish their power of writing.

It is the characteristics of the Literary Arts Department that leading writers directly teach students. Students find the theme which they want to express and master their creative techniques while treasuring originality of their own. Lectures are held by the faculty members who belong to the other departments to accommodate students’ diverse interests, and abundant opportunities are offered to meet stimuli. Students obtain specialized knowledge and practical skills by learning diverse viewpoints so that they play active parts as specialists of literary arts, nonfiction writing, publishing, and translation with sharp observing powers and deep insights.

Creative Writing (Novels, Poetry, Scripts)

For writing ability to send out the message accurately, students master basics for writing such as “Japanese grammar” and so on. They deepen understandings of the literary works and expand their abilities to express themselves by writing. They are encouraged to find their themes and expressive methods, and to actually spin up the stories. Through faculty members’ guidance, criticism, and critique among peer students, they become excellent expressionists of words by practice.

Nonfiction and Literary Criticism

To obtain the original story-telling that does not exit anywhere.

From history in literary and theatrical arts to current affairs, students deepen understandings of various fields and master viewpoints to discuss them in their own words, rational thoughts and techniques. They foster sensibilities to catch information and polish thinking powers to test the information accurately. They have training for cutting-edge narration.

Publishing and Editing

We thoroughly train the editing power which is effective for the present-day business.

Students study practical subjects such as marketing, planning, composition, editing, and printing system. They totally master knowledge and techniques which are ready fighting powers in the mass-communication industry. In practice of “book design”, student taste themes and messages and select words and photographs, and decide design. They are trained editing power applicable to various business scenes.

Translation and Reading Course

In some cases, a translated novel is more impressive that it is in the original.

Broadcasting Department

TV studio with Digital High Vision System, the sub-adjusting room with up-to-date console, automobile for relaying broadcast, camera, sounds and lighting machines are compatible with the grade of real broadcasting studios. Production Course

Not only producing a program but also its surround is studied at the same time.

Student choose one of the following classes; audio practice, drama practice, documentary practice, studio and relay-broadcasting practice and practically study the process of the program production by using professional equipment. We offer various lectures related to broadcasting, therefore, students can grasp the whole operation of broadcasting and they understand the details of the entire work.

Announce Course

Students aim to be not only an announcer but also a storyteller of information and the times.

Aiming to master appealing and individualistic story-telling techniques to attract listeners, students are trained to read various drafts (news, commercial and narration), description and report of the conditions. We help students establish the viewpoint to grasp and look at the society objectively as broadcasting journalists who have skills in story-telling.

Advertising Course

Information which is touching, enlightening and useful for living is called an advertisement.

Students master the skills to produce advertisement while studying the special character of the media concerning TV and radio commercial and advertisement of printed medium such as newspapers and magazines. A field of advertisement is the industry which appeals to the human senses and influences the trends of social movements and economical activities. The course aims to foster students as bearers of the information culture, who activate and improve our lives.

Voice Acting Course

A characteristic voice exists beyond a right voice.

After acquiring the basic techniques of announcing to convey the message in accurate words, students aspire to become voice artists with originality. There are growing needs for voice artists such as voice over the foreign movies and animation films, reading at welfare and medical institutions, and podcast. Art Planning Department

Students develop their planning and practical powers to bridge the gap between arts, culture and society.

In the Art Planning Department, students study and understand arts in the past while obtaining ability to keep up with evolving art scene and cultural situation. With open minds, studying art and culture, students are striving to realize the abundance of the society. A mandatory system in which enables students to obtain museum curator’s certificates fosters knowledge and practical powers needed to bridge the gap.

Arts Management

Students learn what is necessary to create a place to realize communication for artists and viewers and to link excellent arts and society while they theoretically study the present arts. Furthermore, students obtain capabilities of planning and managing the place where there are exchanges between artists and viewers.

Cultural Management

Students hold a fashion show, and exhibit the world of animation at the museum. They inherit the traditional cultures in the region, and tackle the task of invigorating the town. Students seek understandings for managements to promote such cultural plans.

Theatrical Arts Department

We foster excellent humans and expand their talents.

This department fosters creators of the stage. There are courses for expressionists such as actor, director, musical actor, dancer, ballet including stage stuff such as stage artists for sounds effects and stage illumination. Each course is linked to work together to plan, practice and play so that they can acquire techniques and knowledge practically. Through works, students can deepen their powers for communication and team works with their peers and obtain significantly important nature as stage actors.

Acting and Directing Course

We study the methods to transcend emotions from the stage to audience.

Students study theories and develop their powers of acting and directing through practice. After basic trainings such as practice in vocalization, pronunciation, and methods for emotional expression, they develop capabilities as actors and directors and advance their skills while experiencing real performance.

Musical Course

Singing, Dancing, Performing. Students will study entertainment bodily.

Musical is entertainment which requires various talents. Starting from mastering techniques for singing while dancing, students obtain vocalization and body expressions which are suitable for musical. Students improve their abilities of singing, dancing and acting, and foster the real powers as musical actors.

Dance Course

Only for beauty to dance, they train the mind and body.

Students polish their dance techniques of both ballet and contemporary dance. Fostering flexibility, maintenance, rhythmic senses, in the second year, students perform both ballet and modern dance. In the third year, they engage in making real work, in the forth year, through individual dancing production, they improve their ability toward graduation performance.

Stage Art Course

Design a story in space.

Stage Art is an art which designs space on the stage. Imagination and flexible ideas make images in space. After mastering the knowledge and techniques to create a stage, while linking with other courses for performance in and out of the university, students experience the process of realizing a stage such as planning stage arts.

Stage Sound Effect Course

Create the sound of a story.

Students study planning, making and editing of indispensable sound effects for performing arts as one flow. After mastering production of sound effects and basic knowledge of recording, students practice at the performance on and off-campus. We foster talented people who can work right away at the sight.

Stage Lighting Course

There is a story designed by light.

Stage lighting is a three-dimensional art which express a stage by using light. While developing senses of lights and colors, students train sensitivities for lighting. On the other hand, they master knowledge of multifaceted fields such as Electric Engineering, Science of Color, and Psychology. They expand their abilities of performances on and off-campus and aspire to be professionals of the stage and television.
